Overview
The Mental Health Support Worker certificate provides you with an educational background and general exposure to the Human Services system. You will learn about the field of mental/behavioral health and how to provide support to individuals with mental health disorders. The certificate is also helpful if you are already working in the field, but want further training.
Mental health is an area of human services in need of trained workers at all levels. This coursework is intended to help you learn the skills necessary to find work as a paraprofessional in that field. There is no current requisite certification for a mental health support worker, but the certificate’s curriculum gives you an educational background should one be established.
This certificate would also be useful for those working in related fields, such as nursing, or for people with shared experience of mental illness. After training you might work as a mental health technician, behavioral health aid or intake counselor.
This certificate is also building block for the the Human Services degree.
