Overview

Prepare to become an important part of the healthcare team!

If you are a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), the Medication Nursing Assistant (MNA) Certificate program will prepare you to administer medication to patients in long-term care facilities. The training covers the basic principles and techniques of medication administration.

Training includes:

  • The professional role of the MNA
  • An understanding of medical ethics and laws
  • An overview of common drugs, their effects and side effects
  • Key safety issues that include medication interactions
  • Infection control and safety for administering drugs
  • Common medication errors
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Basic pharmacology and common drugs used for a broad-range of medical conditions
  • Medication use in older adults

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for the program if you:

  • Hold a valid and unencumbered nursing assistant license issued by the Board of Nursing
  • Have worked as an LNA for two full years (4,160 hours) within the past 5 years
  • Possess proficiency in Math and English
  • Have not been convicted of a felony
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Comply with MCC’s application procedures
  • Comply with MCC’s tuition requirements

This course will be delivered in a 60/40 hour hybrid format (online and in-person) for a total of 100 hours.

  • 40 hrs, on-site, in-person clinical
