Introduction to Accounting
Accounting is a field that offers challenging and meaningful work as well as good working conditions and a rewarding salary.
MCC’s Accounting program will teach you the accounting skills needed for career opportunities, as well as the analytical skills needed to evaluate situations and look at the “big picture.” The degree provides a foundation in economics, law, management, finance and computer technology. Curriculum is continually modified and updated to keep pace with ever-changing rules, laws and technology.

Accreditation
The Business Department’s Associate Degree in Accounting is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).* Studying in an accredited program like ours makes it easier for you to transfer to earn a 4-year degree at colleges and universities throughout the country.

Program Goals
The mission of the Department of Business Studies is to provide career education with hands-on learning to bridge the gap between a student’s academic career and business and industry.
Our Accounting program is designed to help you acquire the practical skills needed for the workplace, while also providing the academic foundation – and credits – to successfully transfer.
Curriculum
Accreditation
The Business Department’s Associate Degrees in Accounting, Business Communications, Business Studies, Management and Marketing are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Admission Requirements
A High School transcript or interview with an MCC Admissions Counselor is required for entry into this program.
Note: An individual with criminal charges may not be able to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Please check with the NH Board of Accountancy before pursing a degree in accounting if you have been convicted of a criminal charge and want to become a CPA.
Incoming Transfer Policy
Students may transfer credits earned at other accredited institutions with a grade of “C” or better in courses with equivalent content. Appropriate transfer credits may be accepted within a ten-year period.

Outcomes
MCC’s Accounting A.S. degree prepares you for employment in an entry-level accounting position or to further your studies toward a 4-year degree.
Since our Accounting program is accredited by the ACBSP (see Curriculum tab), after completing the degree you will have a solid foundation in Accounting and Business Studies. This prepares you to seamlessly transfer to a 4-year college or university to continue your education.
Acquired Skills
Students who graduate from this program will:
- Have a practical working knowledge of financial and managerial accounting.
- Know how to operate at least one accounting software program.
- Know how to prepare a complex individual tax return.
- Be able to prepare accurate and well-organized financial statements.
- Be able to make the adjustments needed to create financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Demonstrate proficiency in analytical thinking, oral and written communication, and applied mathematical skills.
- Articulate the necessity for continued education through a bachelor degree and national licensing such as the CPA or CMA.
Employment Opportunities
MCC has a working partnership with Robert Half International, KBW and Staff Hunters (placement agencies for accounting and finance professionals), where they can assist accounting students to find temporary and permanent placement in accounting-related jobs.
Graduates of the program are ready for entry-level positions in public accounting, private industry, government, non-profit organizations and international arenas.

The Accounting, Associate of Science (A.S.), degree transfers in its entirety to many 4-year colleges and universities including:

SNHU accepts 90 credits from MCC and awards scholarships to MCC Accounting graduates based on academic performance. - Plymouth State University
- UNH-Manchester
- Franklin Pierce University
Credits also transfer nationally to many other ACBSP-accredited colleges and universities.
