Overview
Pharmacy technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other healthcare settings under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names.
Training includes:
- Dosage calculations
- I.V. flow rates
- Drug compounding
- Dose conversions
- Dispensing of prescriptions
- Inventory control
- Billing and reimbursement
Eligibility
To be eligible for MCC’s Pharmacy Technician Certificate program, students must:
- Be a minimum age of 18 years old
- Possess a high school diploma, GED or HiSet
Class Format
The 5-week Pharmacy Technician Certification training program includes 104 hours of instruction.

Program Costs
Tuition & Two Books: $1,750*
*Two text books are included in the cost of tuition. Additional fees such as scrubs, insurance, and exam fees are the responsibility of the student.

About the Instructor:
Ralph Luciano graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 1981. He began his career in independent pharmacies and transitioned to chain pharmacies, working as both Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacy Supervisor. He then worked in Managed Care as Pharmacy Manager for a large health and welfare labor union. At the end of his pharmacy practice, he was the Pharmacy Manager for a Long-Term Care Pharmacy.
Now retired, Luciano instructs future Certified Pharmacy Technicians. He was on the Board of Directors for the Boston Druggists Association from 2008-2018 as well as a long-time member. Ralph also served on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association from 2009-2018, was a preceptor and adjunct instructor for the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University and is still actively involved with their alumni association.
